Q & A

The current material field has been expanded to various sectors. The School should educate students to have basic knowledge in the material engineering and to become professionals in specific area in order to meet the needs of this society. It is also important to give a rightful sense of value and vocational ethics to contribute to cultural development as well as knowledge since material fields like metal, ceramics and semiconductor naturally provide people with convenience through economic development. The School of Materials Science & Engineeringadapts the following educational goals to achieve this purpose.

1. To improve basic knowledge, research and development skills

Material engineering is complicated with physics, chemistry, mechanic, electronic, etc. Thus, the School educates students with 3 basic common courses and 3 major courses to overcome the different nature, resulting to understand structure and characteristics of the material, and the relationship with each other..
① Basic Common Course
② Metallurgical Engineering
③ Advanced Materials Processing
④ Electronic Materials
(These major subjects are found in the Curriculum List)
The School sets the educational direction to educate research and development skills. In doing so, the School plays a central role in educating excellent professionals who can produce the value added goods and transform advanced technology into the industry.
① Graduate student should acquire problem solving skill and investigating technique to do basic research and collaborated research with the industry.
② Graduate student should learn how to search and analyze the domestic and foreign journals about major courses, and how to operate expensive equipments.
③ Graduate student should adapt oneself readily in the fields of industry through collaborated research and technical consulting with the industry.
④ Graduate student should open one’s mind through collaborated investigation with other major course institutes or scientific exchange.
⑤ Graduate student should take part in the nationwide scientific seminars and publish a thesis in the journals.

2. To improve students’ adaptability in the field of industry

Material engineering is a profession with rich career opportunities such as companies of chemical engineering, electricity as well as machine, metal, metal, ceramics. Therefore, the School should provide students with unbiased knowledge to adapt themselves readily in any sort of industry. The School promotes students to participate in seminars regularly, and also provides them with various graduate courses.

3. To improve international competitiveness through globalization

The technical competition in the material field is beyond the nation, so the local industry located in Ulsan also demands engineers with international competitive power. Therefore, the School strives to produce students who are competent in foreign language and who has global sense through international exchange in major education. In addition, the School educates students to use information technology including internet, to acquire sense of developing trend in material field, and to establish right solution through searching and analyzing those data.

4. To establish vocational ethics and sense of value

Engineers with only scientific, technical knowledge cannot effectively contribute to society. The School sets its role to lead the development of local community through constant self- development of students with rightful sense of value. For example,
① Students should be fully aware of importance of the work, responsibility and sincere attitude.
② Students should be attached to their department, laboratory or other institutes.
③ Students should have vocational ethics to meet the needs of times.
④ Students should develop specific, creative thinking skills through scientific, logical thinking.
⑤ Students should raise concentration and patience to solve the problem.
